I fly South (culinarily speaking) for Easter. Specifically, I (re)visit New Orleans every year for my Easter Dinner. This link bears only a tangential relationship to logic, and has more to do with a sequence of free association that drifts from Mardi Gras to New Orleans to Lent to the joyous celebrations that accompany the end of Lenten fasting (assuming you were being abstemious during Lent, which I can’t claim I/we were) and back to New Orleans because those are folks who know how to throw a good party. TND – Emmissaries of Spring
April 17, 2014Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by the sun of York
(William Shakespeare – Richard III – Act I/Scene I)
Currently we’re about halfway in between those two lines – it’s no longer the winter of our discontent, but it’s not quite glorious summer yet*. We’re just glimpsing the onset of Spring, and I had the realization the other day that all my favorite flowers are Spring flowers – crocuses (croci?) hyacinths, daffodils, snow drops, lilies of the valley, forsythia, lilacs . . .
I’m not sure if this is because they are all things that come and go quickly; their pleasures are fleeting and like asparagus and cherries must be enjoyed to the fullest in the moment. Read the rest of this entry ?

TND – Winning at Birthdays
April 7, 2014Some people have Birthday Weeks in which they celebrate their birthday on the day of their actual birth + some celebration on a more convenient day of the week like a Friday or Saturday. Some people have Birthday Months in which there are multiple birthday celebrations (friends, family, Dinner . . .) spread out over the course of a month – and sometimes in different cities – to accommodate the vagaries of everyone’s schedule.
